The first and foremost step towards disciplining a child is setting the rules clear in your head. Discipline cannot be achieved by shouting and yelling it has to be achieved by authority and assertiveness. Once you are clear with the rules they have to be communicated to the child with love and authority. The rules have to be firm and clear, but should be revised from time to time. A sure cut way to discipline is by setting a good example. Physical abuse only tends to hurt the child and he is bound to remember it for the rest of his life how his parent used his physical power over him. Also never compare the child with another to teach him something. This could spoil the child's relationships. A more positive ways of punishment for indiscipline would be to reprimand the child. Make him do extra school or home work or cut down on his time of doing his favorite activity or cut down on his allowance or postpone a scheduled visit to a favorite place. These punishments are definitely more rewarding then physical beating.

We have listed below a few behavioral problems and ways to handle them.

Potty training tips

Start Early

I believe training starts at the age of 8 months when your child learns to sit on his own.It is now a good time to make him start sitting on the toilet for his bowels . Try and notice when the child is likely to pooh and make him sit on the toilet then. most children pooh in the mornings as soon as they wake up. make it a habit to make hi sit on the potty the. Sit beside him with a book or a toy so that he does not get bored. It is an individual choice whether you want to use a seat that you attach to your regular potty or a separate potty.

Throw away the diaper

At the age of about 1 1/2 year just throw away the diaper and start taking your child to the toilet at regular intervals to pee. If your child makes an accident try and explain things to him that where is he supposed to pee and pooh.

Handling night training

It is a good idea to make the child pee just before he goes to bed. Try and make him drink less liquids before he sleeps . A very successful way to night train your child is to take them to the toilet once in the iddle of the night.

Potty training tips

1.Always praise when your child has used the bathroom to pee or pooh.

2.Reward yourchild for using the potty.

3.Teach boys to use the potty sitting down at first. They can progress to standing up later.

4.Sit dow with your child when he is using the potty and indulge him in soe activity.

5.Accidents happen dot get angry with your child rather explain thigs to him.

Sibling rivalry

Sibling rivalry generally comes because children are not willing to share their parent's love and attention. When the age difference between children is less rivalry also takes the form of competition. Parents should try and go to the root of the problem and try and arrest rivalry at a young age. When there is a quarrel between the children, parents should not interfere and let the children handle it themselves. Generally comparisons and partiality shown by parents also ad a lot of fuel to the fire. Avoid comparing; ever child has his positives and negatives. Create a loving and happy atmosphere in the house and the children are likely to reflect that.

Anger and tantrums

Anger at a young age manifests itself in the form of tantrums. The best way to control a tantrum is to initially ignore it and let the child control it himself. You could also try and give the child his favorite toy to soothe him down. Holding the child and caressing him also reassures him and helps him get out of his inner turmoil. Don't give to her demands. This will psychologically trigger more tantrums so she can get her way.

Spoilt children

Spoilt children are those who are crying and whining all the time and always wanting their demands fulfilled. He is always craving for his parents attentions. This behavior can be controlled with a few useful tips.

Praise your child when he has behaved well

Go to the root of the problem and try and solve it together rather then against each other.

Try and revise your rules according to the situation and communicate it to your child.

Be assertive when telling the child to do something, remember you are not requesting.

Always show love, affection and understanding when communicating with your child. Try and put yourself in his shoes when asking him to do something.

It is up to the parents to make children behave, as they want them to behave. Whether you want your child to respect their grandparents or to go to bed early or to respect their possessions or to greet guests or to talk politely with strangers, it has to all be communicated to the child and set clean and clear before the child. Children get confused when the preacher does not follow what he preaches and the parent is inconsistent in the rule according to the situation.

To inculcate discipline in a child the parents have to first discipline themselves. But we hope the tips provided above specially the potty training tips help you in your journey of discipline.
